Everton are looking at alternatives options should their move for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina fail to materialise.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Everton are considering moves for Burnley ace Ben Mee and Marcos Rojo of Manchester United should the Toffees prove unable to get Yerry Mina through the Goodison Park door this summer.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Mina is Everton’s top defensive target and the Premier League side are hoping of striking a deal for the £30 million-rated Barcelona ace. Nevertheless, the club are keeping backup options in mind.

The Echo reports that Ben Gibson is being considered, while Marco Silva and Marcel Brands could pursue moves for Mee or Rojo should Mina end up not arriving on Merseyside before the window shuts.

It is a smart move to have alternative targets at this stage of the window as time is swiftly running out to strengthen a cluster of centre-backs that looked very vulnerable for much of last season and have continued to look poor at times in pre-season.

Mee has been a superb player for the Clarets and Sean Dyche will surely be desperate not to lose him at this stage of the summer, especially as they could have a Europa League campaign to add into their schedule this season.

Rojo – who the Daily Mirror reports is rated at £30 million by Manchester United – played a peripheral role at Old Trafford last season, making just nine Premier League appearances. His form during his time with the Red Devils has been mixed, but it would be little surprise if there were some Toffees fans who were in favour of a potential move for the Argentina international should a deal for Mina fall through.

Marcos Rojo of Manchester United clears the ball during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on December 2, 2017 in London, England.
