Everton are reportedly talking to Porto’s Yacine Brahimi.
According to Goal France, Everton are in discussions with Porto winger Yacine Brahimi about a free transfer move to Goodison Park this summer.
Brahimi, 29, enjoyed a strong season with Porto, notching 13 goals and nine assists in all competitions, but he’s set to leave on a free transfer with his contract expiring this month.
The Algerian winger is known as an exceptional dribbler and creator, so he should be in demand this summer, and it’s claimed that Everton have been talking to him about a move to Goodison Park.
There won’t be many better free agents on the market than Brahimi this summer, but a move to Everton makes absolutely no sense for a couple of reasons.
The first is that Marcel Brands wants young, hungry players with resale value at Everton. At 29, Brahimi simply doesn’t fit that bill, and whilst he’s available for free, the wages and signing-on fee needed for a player approaching 30 would surely go against Brands’ vision.
The second is that Brahimi is a right-footed winger. Everton already have a whole host of them. Richarlison, Bernard, Henry Onyekuru, Ademola Lookman, Kevin Mirallas, Yannick Bolasie, Theo Walcott, Nikola Vlasic…they all fit that bill.
Yes, some of them may be leaving this summer, but even in that case, Everton don’t need to add another in to the mix. What they need is a right-sided winger, preferably a left-footed one to bring balance to Marco Silva’s side – and Brahimi just doesn’t seem to tick the boxes.
Brands’ predecessor Steve Walsh wanted Brahimi for £34million in 2016 (The Mirror), but even for free, it’s hard to see Everton going back in to land the winger this summer.
