According to The Guardian, Everton are in talks with Chelsea about a stunning £35million move to sign striker Michy Batshuayi before tonight’s transfer deadline.

The Toffees have been quiet this month, which was to be expected after such a busy summer, but it has become clear where Everton need to strengthen.

Cenk Tosun hasn’t been scoring the goals and Oumar Niasse has left for Cardiff, meaning a new striker is needed after Marco Silva moved Richarlison back out wide against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

It has looked unlikely that Everton would get involved in the January transfer window, with Silva adamant for weeks now that the club won’t be doing any incoming business.

However, there may be a twist in the tale, as The Guardian report that Everton are now in talks to sign Chelsea striker Batshuayi in a huge deal worth around £35million.

Everton can’t take Batshuayi on loan as they already have Kurt Zouma on loan from the Blues, so a big-money move could go through before the window slams shut.

West Ham are also thought to be interested, but only in a loan deal – and Chelsea want to sell the striker, meaning Everton have an advantage over the Hammers on deadline day.

Batshuayi, 25, is currently on loan at Valencia, but will be sent back to Chelsea after just three goals in 23 games for the La Liga side.

The Belgian international has shown his quality in a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund last season though, scoring nine times in 14 games – and Everton will hope to unlock that quality again if they do secure his signature.
