According to Calciomercato, Everton are hoping to avoid a repeat of the fan backlash suffered by Tottenham in their hunt for a new manager.
What’s the story?
Well, Everton are continuing to hold talks with Rafa Benitez, despite there already being some initial anger at links to the Spaniard.
Some Everton fans displayed anti-Benitez banners outside Goodison Park, after hearing that the ex-Liverpool boss could replace Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the Toffees have not been put off by those banners.
Having said that, Calciomercato believe Everton are wary of a social media protest similar to the #NoToGattuso trend, which saw Daniel Levy dissuaded from hiring Gennaro Gattuso after it went viral.
The Italian news outlet claim that, if Benitez suddenly stops being pursued by Everton, it would only be because of a similar protest.
Why let it get that far?

Clearly, a portion of Everton’s fanbase have already made their feelings clear – they do not want Benitez anywhere near Goodison Park.
That has been made apparent by the aforementioned banners, and also in the form of some tweets on Twitter.
In that respect, why do Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri want to wait until a Twitter hashtag gets trending before they pull the plug?

Being a football manager is hard enough.
To already be in some supporters’ bad books before a game has been played will just make it all the more difficult for Benitez.
In our view, Everton should just move on from the Spaniard entirely.
