Everton will reportedly rival Tottenham Hotspur for Puig’s signature.

Riqui Puig of FC Barcelona looks on during the Joan Gamper Trophy match between FC Barcelona and Boca Juniors at Camp Nou on August 15, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

Everton will rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Riqui Puig, according to the Sunday Mirror (December 16, page 65).

The newspaper claims the Everton ‘top brass are hoping their close connections with the Barcelona power brokers will give them the edge’ on Tottenham in any dealings.

The Toffees have already taken three players, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes, from the Catalan giants this season.

Puig, a deep-lying central midfield player, has appeared just once for Barcelona’s senior team – assisting a goal in their 4-1 win against Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey at the start of this month.

But the 19-year-old is highly rated at Barca, who gave him a new three-year contract earlier this year.

And it remains to be seen whether Puig would be allowed to leave the Camp Nou.

Would Everton or Tottenham Hotspur be the best fit for Puig, if he becomes available?
