According to the Daily Mail, Everton are hopeful they can take advantage of Tottenham Hotspur’s strict finances to beat them to the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Southampton midfielder has been heavily linked with a move this summer.

Spurs have had a long interest in the Saints man, and a recent report in the Telegraph claimed Hojbjerg is keen on a move to the North London club.

Southampton are seeking a £35 million cash deal for the Denmark international.

Spurs, however, appear willing to drive the price down by offering a player-plus-cash deal involving Kyle Walker-Peters who is currently on loan at St Mary’s.

The Daily Mail claim Everton are hopeful they can put forward a better deal.

The Toffees will want to bolster their midfield ranks. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have suffered from the void left by Idrissa Gueye who joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Hojbjerg is an energetic midfielder who helps Southampton tick. In 29 Premier League starts, he averages 2.6 tackles and one key pass per game (Whoscored).

With only 12 months remaining on his deal, Southampton will feel pressured to selling him this summer rather than lose him for free the following year.

The global health crisis coupled with Tottenham missing out on Champions League football could see Spurs struggle to compete financially this summer.
