According to Calciomercato, Everton hold an advantage over Newcastle in the race to sign Aaron Ramsey from Juventus.
What’s the story?
Well, both Everton and Newcastle are interested in bringing the 30-year-old back to the Premier League.
Ramsey is surplus to requirements under Massimiliano Allegri, and has played just 98 minutes of football in Serie A this season.
Interestingly, Calciomercato state that Everton and Juventus have an excellent relationship, which could help the Toffees land the Welshman.
If that move ends up materialising, Calciomercato add that Newcastle could turn their attentions to another Juventus outcast, Adrien Rabiot.
Armed with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia’s £320bn, the Magpies still pose a financial threat to Everton in this transfer race.
Should Aaron Ramsey join Everton or Newcastle?

In our view, the safer option for Ramsey would be Everton.
Newcastle are currently joint-bottom of the Premier League with five points from a possible 33, and relegation is a real possibility.
Of course, PIF are expected to spend millions in January to back Eddie Howe, although there are no guarantees over Newcastle’s safety.
In that respect, if Ramsey joins the Magpies and they go down, he would have to then find a new club and relocate himself.

That is, of course, on the basis that he doesn’t fancy playing in the Championship, which we believe he wouldn’t.
Everton have problems of their own, but should at least avoid relegation.
In fact, the Toffees were flying before Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury, so another box-to-box midfielder is certainly necessary.
As a result, we think Ramsey should choose Rafa Benitez over Howe.
