According to Calciomercato, Everton have ‘come forward’ with a move for Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio, but face competition from Villarreal.
The report notes that De Sciglio rediscovered his confidence under Rudi Garcia during a loan spell at Lyon last season and could now be on the move permanently.
It’s noted that Juventus don’t actually have plans for De Sciglio moving forward though, and intend to sell for around €5million (£4.3million).
Everton make their move for De Sciglio
Everton have allegedly come forward with their first move for De Sciglio in recent weeks, but have yet to find an agreement with Juventus for a deal.
Villarreal are also keen on De Sciglio, and a move looks likely unless Massimiliano Allegri – who has coached the full back at AC Milan and Juventus whilst branding him ‘phenomenal’ – changes his mind.
Lyon can’t keep De Sciglio and have sacked Garcia anyway, meaning the Italian may be open to a new challenge – which could come with Everton.
Would De Sciglio make sense for the Toffees?
De Sciglio isn’t a flashy, attack-minded right back but he’s composed on the ball and strong defensively, whilst he’s also able to play at left back if needed.
Everton do need another right back to compete with Seamus Coleman, but a move for De Sciglio – who turns 29 in October – doesn’t seem right for Everton.
The price is cheap, but Everton can and should do better, potentially targeting a move for Denzel Dumfries instead, a much more dynamic option.
