According to the Daily Mail, Everton have discussed making a move for Angers ace Baptiste Santamaria – but Burnley are closing in.

It’s claimed that the Toffees have been internally talking about making a move for Santamaria, as have Leicester City.

However, the pair could miss out on signing Santamaria, because Burnley have opened talks with Angers about a deal.

It’s unclear just how much Burnley would be paying, but Aston Villa looked into a £12million deal earlier this year.

Santamaria, 25, has been compared to N’Golo Kante thanks to his relentless work rate and defensive ability in midfield.

He now seems ready to move on from Ligue 1, and Burnley may feel they’re landing something of a coup if they can bring him in.

Everton desperately need a central midfielder this summer, but a number of bigger names have been linked, including Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan.

Santamaria could be another option if those big-name targets don’t arrive, but Burnley making their move now could take him out of Everton’s hands.
