According to BILD, Everton have been handed a big boost in the race to sign Denzel Dumfries, after Bayern Munich cooled their interest.

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-cap Netherlands international is turning plenty of heads with his performances under Frank de Boer at EURO 2020.

Dumfries has scored two goals in three games at the tournament, including a late winner against Ukraine in a 3-2 win.

That attracted Bayern Munich. However, the German giants can’t actually afford to pay PSV Eindhoven’s €16 million (£14 million) asking price.

BILD claim that the money spent on buying Julian Nagelsmann out of his contract with RB Leipzig has impacted a move for Dumfries.

The £37 million signing of Dayot Upamecano, again from RB Leipzig, has also had an impact.

This is great news for Everton

While the Toffees may not be on Bayern Munich’s level competitively, their finances are presumably comparable thanks to the Premier League TV deal.

While COVID-19 has impacted a number of clubs financially, the Premier League TV money is still flowing in, putting Everton in a great position.

It means Marcel Brands has some power when fighting to sign players like Dumfries, who’s making it more and more difficult to land him with each excellent performance at EURO 2020.

Regardless of who else is in the race, the fact Bayern Munich are seemingly out of the equation is big news.

Keep an eye on this one, as Everton now have a great chance to sign the goalscoring right-back.
