Jonas Lossl is not expecting to leave Everton before Friday’s transfer deadline and wants to fight for his place under Carlo Ancelotti, according to the Liverpool Echo.

You don’t need to have a PHD in mathematics to work out that three into two just doesn’t work.

So it is fair to say the experienced Denmark international has his work cut out if he is to play a Premier League game for the early-season pacesetters any time soon.

Lossl has not kicked (or should that be saved?) a ball since Ancelotti took over at Goodison Park almost a year ago. In fact, the 31-year-old has not actually made an official Everton appearance under any manager yet.

The Echo suggests that the former Huddersfield Town glovesman has not given up hope of taking to the field with Prince Rupert’s Tower printed on his chest, however.

Lossl is determined to stay beyond the closure of the transfer window in an attempt to force his way into Ancelotti’s plans.

He has his work cut out of course.

The Italian seems as bewitched as ever by whatever spell Jordan Pickford has placed on him while, in Robin Olsen, Everton now have another experienced, Scandinavian shot-stopper to provide competition for the increasingly erratic England number one.

Perhaps the biggest blow to Lossl so far, however, is that Joao Virginia, the unproven youngster, appears to be ahead of him in Ancelotti’s pecking order.
