Everton are trying to bring Swansea City talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson to Goodison Park this summer.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Everton are beginning to fear that they may miss out on Gylfi Sigurdsson despite the Toffees previously verbally agreeing a fee with Swansea for the Iceland international.

The Telegraph reports that Ronald Koeman has viewed Sigurdsson as his main summer target despite bringing a number of players to Goodison Park already during this window.

Swansea had wanted £50 million for their playmaker, but the Telegraph suggests that there had been scope in their minds to negotiate a compromise with their Premier League rivals.

And it had appeared that that compromise was reached, with the Telegraph adding that they had reached a verbal agreement over the fee – which was to be around £45 million up front with no further add-ons – but Everton have since tried to lower that figure even further, leaving Swansea to contemplate walking away from negotiations altogether.

It would certainly be a major blow for Koeman if he was unable to bring Sigurdsson to Merseyside during the remaining weeks of the window, as he would arguably be a tremendous acquisition.

The 27-year-old has shone during his time at the Liberty Stadium, and that creativity would have undoubtedly boosted Everton’s hopes of pushing higher up the table – but it now appears that they now face a fight just trying to keep the deal alive.
