According to Marca, Everton have fallen short in their proposal for Jasper Cillessen as Valencia seek a £32 million fee for the Dutch goalkeeper.

The Spanish club have gone through radical changes to the playing staff this summer.

Several big-name players have left, including long-term captain Dani Parejo, exciting winger Ferran Torres and Spanish forward Rodrigo who joined Leeds United.

Another player tipped for an exit has been Holland international shot-stopper Cillessen.

But according to Marca, Everton’s proposal for him fell short of Valencia’s asking price.

The Spanish editorial claims the Toffees want Cillessen alongside Bayer Leverkusen. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are ‘far away’ from Valencia’s £32 million valuation.

Cillessen is said to be Valencia’s highest earner, with the club open to a sale.

Everton may be interested as the Merseyside club seek an alternative to England international Jordan Pickford who endured an inconsistent campaign last time out.

Cillessen is highly regarded. Former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde labelled the 31-year-old a world class shot-stopper in an interview with Tellereport.

The former Ajax man boasts plenty of experience and has won titles both in his native Holland and in Barcelona as an understudy to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Everton have already spent big this summer and started the campaign with back-to-back wins. It remains to be seen whether they push ahead for Cillessen before the deadline.
