According to The Mirror, Everton have failed with a £7m approach for Charlton Athletic striker Ademola Lookman – and the League One side allegedly want £10m for their prized asset.

The Toffees enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, with Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie grabbing the headlines as major purchases for Ronald Koeman’s side.

On deadline day back in August, Everton swooped to land a young English striker, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin was plucked from League One side Sheffield United – and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Now, it appears that Everton are ready to pursue a similar move, as they’re again targeting a young English striker plying his trade in League One; this time, it’s Charlton Athletic’s Ademola Lookman.

The Mirror claim that Everton verbally offered Charlton £7m for Lookman ahead of the transfer window, but the Addicks have rejected the bid, telling the Toffees to pay £10m for the 19-year-old.

Lookman has been a key player for Charlton since making his first-team debut in November 2015, as he scored five goals in 24 games as the Addicks suffered relegation from the Championship – and he’s scored five times in just 17 games so far this term.

Able to play out wide or up front, Lookman’s pace can cause real problems, and it’s now up to Everton to decide whether to return with an improved bid, as Premier League rivals lurk in the background.

The report claims that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all keen on Lookman, meaning Everton may have to make a quick decision to make sure that they land the England Under-20 international.
