According to the Daily Mail, Everton-owned forward Henry Onyekuru is wanted by European giants Atletico Madrid and Juventus ahead of the January transfer window.

Onyekuru, 20, came through the Aspire Academy before joining linked club KAS Eupen in Belgium, where he emerged as one of the top young stars in Belgium last season, hitting 24 goals in all competitions.

The Nigerian forward unsurprisingly earned a summer move away from Eupen, with Everton winning the race to sign him – but due to work permit restrictions, he was loaned back to Belgium with Anderlecht.

So far, Onyekuru has continued to show why he is so highly-rated, as he has notched seven goals in just 14 games for Anderlecht, and has gained valuable Champions League experience this season too.

Now, the Daily Mail report that European giants Atletico Madrid and Juventus are both interested in signing Onyekuru in January, which presents Everton with a major dilemma.

Manager Ronald Koeman would no doubt love to add Onyekuru to his side this season to boost his one-paced and goal-shy attack, but it’s believed that they could turn their £7million into a £15million January fee, giving them a major profit in just a matter of months.

It’s claimed that Onyekuru is aware of interest from even bigger clubs, and may now never return to Goodison Park if Everton do decide to cash in, though they may be better keeping hold of the forward.

Any deal would be complicated anyway; it would require Anderlecht to agree to cancel his loan move and allow him to head back to Everton before being sold, and registration with clubs could see FIFA’s Three-Club rule, meaning a return to Everton in 2018 still seems the most likely course of action, whether that’s in January or in the summer – but heightened interest may just give Everton belief that they really have landed a gem.
