Everton are now seemingly close to two of their most exciting signings in recent years. Brazilian midfielder Allan will soon be announced according to reports, while Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez is also said to be on his way to Goodison Park (TalkSport).
The Toffees are clearly aiming to strengthen their central midfield. Allan and Rodriguez are quality additions in the centre of their park but Everton are not stopping there.
Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure has been on Everton’s radar for a while now. The Toffees failed to seal a £30 million deal for the Frenchman last summer, but they seem to be confident that they can get the deal over the line this time around (Daily Mail).
The Hornets’ relegation makes it almost certain that Doucoure will leave the club before the end of the transfer window. Everton are reportedly the front-runners but a team from Doucoure’s home country have joined the race.
The Evening Standard have claimed today that Niko Kovac’s Monaco are interested in signing Doucoure this summer. The principality club want to strengthen their midfield and the Watford star is the man they have allegedly identified for that role.
The report claims that Doucoure prefers to stay in the Premier League. However, Monaco are trying to lure him back to his home country, which puts some added pressure on Everton to wrap up the deal quickly.

Watford are looking for a fee in excess of £20 million according to the report. FootMercato revealed recently that Everton’s opening offer of £18 million was rejected by the Hornets who, despite their relegation, are sticking to their guns in transfer negotiations.
Everton now have to act quickly. Further delay could open a window of opportunity for Monaco to swoop in for Doucoure; especially if they meet Watford’s asking price before the Toffees do.
A midfield trio of Allan and Doucoure sitting behind James Rodriguez is a massive upgrade to what Everton currently have. The outcome of the deal for the Frenchman could make or break their chances of finishing in one of the European places next season.
