According to The Telegraph, Everton want to make a major statement of intent during the summer transfer window – and are eyeing Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.

The Toffees are set to finish seventh in Ronald Koeman’s first season in charge of the club, and whilst that is an improvement on Roberto Martinez’s final two campaigns, they will hope for even better next term.

With continued investment from Farhad Moshiri, Everton are expected to be busy in the transfer market again this summer, having signed the likes of Ashley Williams, Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, Yannick Bolasie and Ademola Lookman over the last 12 months.

Now, The Telegraph report that Everton want to make a real statement of intent when the summer transfer window opens, and are targeting Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, has enjoyed productive season despite being stop-start at times, registering six goals and eight assists in 44 games, with only 26 of those coming as a starter under Arsene Wenger.

The England international may be starting to put everything together after years of unfulfilled promise, but his contract with Arsenal expires in 2018, and Everton may hope to convince Arsenal to sell now rather than lose him for nothing in a year’s time.

Arsenal and England team-mate Walcott – who also joined the Gunners from Southampton as a teenager – has hit 19 goals in all competitions this season, but has still struggled to nail down a regular first-team place.

Should Wenger bring in a new attacker this summer, then 28-year-old Walcott may want to consider his future at the Emirates Stadium, and Everton could hope to land something of a coup by luring him to Goodison Park thanks to the millions of Moshiri, who formerly held a stake in Arsenal.
