Liverpool may loan out Danny Ings in January – Southampton, Crystal Palace, Watford and, interestingly, Everton are reportedly interested.
It takes a brave man to make that lonely trek across Stanley Park. In fact, the last player to move directly from Liverpool to Everton was one Gary Ablett back in 1992.
25 years on, however, that long wait could finally be ended. TEAMtalk are reporting that Liverpool are ready to loan Danny Ings out in the January transfer window – and he is a target for none other than Merseyside rivals Everton.
The report claims that The Toffees have already expressed an interest in the former Burnley striker, who will be allowed to leave Anfield on a temporary basis in the New Year if he does not impress manager Jurgen Klopp between now and January.
Southampton and Crystal Palace, two sides who have struggled for goals all season, are also reported to be interested in Ings – who wants to stay in the Premier League to boost his outside chances of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad. Watford are also understood to be in the mix.
It’s links with Everton, however, that will cause the most intrigue. Ings has played just 17 minutes of senior football this season, coming in the EFL Cup defeat to Leicester City last month, and has not appeared in the Premier League since the latter stages of 2015/16 due to a serious knee injury.
Ings, however, would be a low risk and potentially high reward signing for Everton. The Toffees failed to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer and, in the Belgian’s absence, have five goals in eight Premier League games this season.
Though it remains to be seen whether Ings, who stated recently that he wanted to remain at Liverpool for the foreseeable future, would risk souring his relationship with supporters by donning the blue of Everton for a temporary period.
