Everton have reportedly cooled their interest in Manchester United winger Memphis Depay.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton have completely pulled out of the race to sign Manchester United’s Memphis Depay – and BBC Sport now claim that a deal has been agreed with Lyon.

Depay, 22, was a blockbuster signing for United during the 2015 summer transfer window, as he had starred in his native Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.

The winger hit 28 goals in 40 games for PSV during the 2014-15 season, and arrived at Old Trafford with many believing he was the next big United star – but he hit just seven goals in 45 games last season.

This term has been even worse for Depay, as he has played just 20 minutes of Premier League action across three substitute appearances, having fallen well out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

Many expected Depay to leave during this month’s transfer window, with Everton touted as a potential destination after manager Ronald Koeman told FOX Sports NL in November that he would like to work with Depay.

However, Everton have since signed attacker Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic, and didn’t move for Depay when discussing a deal with Manchester United for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Now, the Liverpool Echo report that Everton have suddenly cooled their interest to only wanting a loan deal last week, and with United unwilling to loan Depay out, the chances of him heading to Goodison Park are completely dead.

Earlier today, BBC Sport reported that United have now agreed to sell Depay to French side Lyon in a deal worth £16million rising to £21.7million, ending the winger’s miserable spell at Old Trafford.
