Report: Everton end pursuit of Watford boss Marco Silva

Everton have reportedly accepted that they are not going to be able to bring Watford boss Marco Silva in for the time-being.

According to a report from the Independent, Everton are now resigned to the fact that they will not be able to bring in Watford boss Marco Silva for the time-being.

The Independent reports that the Toffees have had their eye on Silva for a number of weeks as they continue their search for Ronald Koeman’s successor, having parted company with the Dutchman last month.

Everton have reached out to Watford about seeking the opportunity to speak to Silva, but the Independent reports that the Hornets have rebuffed all approaches, even the most recent one which saw the Toffees offer to pay a compensation fee in excess of £10 million.

And Everton have now accepted that they will not be bringing Silva in for the time-being, with the Independent adding that Silva has no plans to resign despite his interest in speaking to their Premier League rivals.

The Independent hints that there may be the potential for Silva to move on in the summer, but having failed to land him so far, it would be no surprise if Everton decide against making plans simply until the end of the season in the hope that their chances of landing Silva then are enhanced.

With Watford seemingly not keen to discuss a deal for a while now, Everton fans may well be pleased that the club appear to have finally admitted defeat in trying to land Silva.

It is not clear who the club may now be after, but having that closure of knowing that Silva is a no-go for now will surely help them switch their attention towards candidates who may be available and potentially bring an end to their hunt for their next boss.
