Everton have dropped out of the race to sign PSV defender Denzel Dumfries despite targeting the 25-year-old for close to two months.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FC Inter 1908, the Toffees have pulled out of the competition to sign the Euro 2020 star.
As per the report, the main reason for this is that Dumfries has alerted his agent that he is eager to move to Inter Milan.
The Serie A champions are eager to sign a right-back this window. Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is also an option for the Nerazzurri.
However, it appears that the club will target either Dumfries or Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez.
Everton have been interested in Dumfries since June. The right-back exploded onto the scene this summer after starring for Holland in the group stages of Euro 2020.

As per Netherlands News Live, the PSV defender was hailed as ‘excellent’ by the foreign press.
Indeed, Rafa Benitez’s side are eager to sign a right-back this summer. And Dumfries appeared to be Marcel Brands’ top choice for the position this window.
Yet this news seems to indicate that they have conceded defeat for the Dutchman.

With a month of the window left to conduct business, Everton have time on their side to identify a new target for the position.
However, with funds seemingly low for the Merseyside club, they might have to look deep for a starting right-back in the market.
