Report: Everton defender Michael Keane still in England contention

Everton defender Michael Keane has struggled for form so far this season.

According to a report in The Times, Michael Keane could still be heading to the World Cup with England, despite a disastrous first season at Everton.

Keane was brought to Everton for big money from Burnley last summer, but he has struggled to stay in the side.

The centre-back has looked out of sorts throughout the campaign, and failed to show his top form.

Keane has appeared sluggish, and been part of an Everton defence was has never looked secure.

The 25-year-old has failed to hold down a place in Everton’s starting line-up, and has been taken out of the team at times.

Keane has started 18 of Everton’s 27 Premier League matches to date, but England boss Gareth Southgate remains an admirer.

As a result, the former Manchester United man could still be going to Russia with England.

If Keane does make the Three Lions squad, he will be in competition with the likes of John Stones, Harry Maguire and Phil Jones for a place in the starting line-up.
