The Liverpool Echo have claimed Everton youngster Gethin Jones is set to join League One side Fleetwood Town on a permanent three-year deal, ending his long-standing association with the Blues.

The 22-year-old right-back has just a matter of months remaining on his current deal at Goodison Park, but it now appears that Fleetwood have moved to land the youngster this month – before the end of his contract.

Jones was a prominent fixture of the Toffees’ Under-23 side, captaining the second string on numerous occasions and making 75 appearances in total for the club – as well as adding 12 assists.

Everton captain Gethin Jones celebrates with the trophy after the Super Cup NI under 21 final at Ballymena Showgrounds on July 23, 2016 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

Considering that, as well as his promising loan spells with Barnsley and Plymouth Argyle, he could feel slightly hard done by that he was not handed more first-team appearances than just his sole outing against Krasnodar in December 2014.

However, he has now decided to end his 10-year association with the club after joining the Toffees as a 12-year-old scholar, by dropping down the leagues with Uwe Rosler’s Trawlermen.

A number of football league clubs were interested in Jones but Fleetwood have reportedly grabbed the signature of Jones before anyone else.
