Ashley Williams is closing in on a move to Stoke City, with the Everton defender reportedly set to undergo a medical.

Williams has been linked with the Goodison Park exit after an extremely disappointing year with the Toffees. Everton were poor at the back for the large majority of the campaign, and that is in spite of Jordan Pickford enjoying a very encouraging first season at Goodison Park.
It was abundantly clear to many that Williams and Phil Jagielka needed replacing as they edge towards the end of their careers at the highest level. And it appears that the Wales international may have already played his final game for the Toffees.

It is an interesting deal given that the 33-year-old’s contract at Goodison Park expires next summer, as shown by transfermarkt, so Everton will probably miss out on a permanent fee for the veteran.
It is not clear what Stoke are paying to take Williams for the coming year, but it would probably be little surprise if it was a sizeable fee for a loan deal given that the Toffees will surely decide to let him leave on a free at the end of his contract next summer.
