Everton could pay an initial £14 million to reunite Carlo Ancelotti with Napoli contract rebel Arkadiusz Milik during the January transfer window, according to AreaNapoli.
For this Poland international, the new year can’t come soon enough. 2020 has been a challenge for all of us but Milik would be forgiven for counting down the days until the clock strikes midnight on 31 December.
After rejecting the chance to extend a contract that expires in the summer, the former Ajax forward is now persona non grata at Stadio Olimpico.
He hasn’t played a single second of football under Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso this season and that’s unlikely to change. Unless, of course, he performs a dramatic U-turn and signs a new deal at long last.
That, however, feels about as likely as Gattuso professing an undying love for Inter Milan.
Milik is desperate to leave in the winter and, according to reports from Italy, Ancelotti could be ready to raid his old employers for the second time in a few months.
Perhaps inspired by Allan’s immediate impact at Goodison Park, the Toffees could part with £14 million – plus a further £4 million in bonuses – to rescue Milik from his Neapolitan nightmare.
The report adds Ancelotti is a big fan of Milik, having described the one-time Bayer Leverkusen youngster as “sensational” during his time in charge at the San Paolo. Albeit with the proviso he needs to add consistency to his game.
If the Toffees are serious about qualifying for Europe this campaign, a classic number nine capable of easing the burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a welcome addition.
Especially as the only other striker on Everton’s books (not including the versatile Richarlison) is Cenk Tosun.
