Report: Everton could cut Brendan Galloway’s Sunderland loan spell short

Everton are reportedly considering whether to cut Brendan Galloway’s loan spell at Championship strugglers Sunderland short.

According to a report from the Sunderland Echo, Everton could be weighing up whether to terminate Brendan Galloway’s loan spell at Sunderland this month as he continues to struggle for minutes at the Stadium of Light.

Galloway joined the Black Cats from the Toffees on a season-long loan spell in the summer back when Simon Grayson was in charge, and initially, it appeared that he would play a key role in Sunderland’s campaign, starting regularly for the Championship side.

However, he has not started a single first-team game since back in September and has made just two substitute appearances for the club since then, with new manager Chris Coleman clearly preferring other options.

And the Sunderland Echo reports that the Toffees could be considering bringing Galloway back to Goodison Park this month with the intention of loaning him out to another team who can offer more first-team football to the 21-year-old left-back.

If Sunderland do not have a particularly significant transfer budget for this month – and simply judging by their business in the summer, it would be a surprise if Coleman had a lot to spend during this window – then it undoubtedly makes sense to move the players on who are expected to make little impact in the first-team.

Letting Galloway return to Everton may not make a massive difference to their funds, but if the money saved from the termination of the deal brings them just that little bit closer to being able to fund a move for one of their targets, then it may well be a smart move from Coleman.
