According to an article penned by Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Everton could sign Maxwel Cornet on loan this summer.
The Toffees had been linked with a move for Cornet by The Athletic, and now, Nixon has delivered some more details on this potential deal.
According to this report, the Merseyside club are trying to stagger payments in this deal as they continue to battle with Financial Fair Play restrictions, and one way in which they could delay payment is by signing Cornet on an initial loan.
The deal would include an obligation to buy should Everton stay up, but as we saw last season, that isn’t a formality these days.
Of course, adding Cornet to the squad would give Frank Lampard’s side a much better chance of beating the drop this season. After all, he was arguably Burnley’s best player last term, but the fact that Everton are looking to include a relegation-related clause in this loan goes to show they’re still concerned about their Premier League status.
Cornet would bring an element of versatility to the Toffees. He’s more than capable of playing on either wing, while the ‘unbelievable’ Ivorian is also able to play as a left-back if needed.
After the departure of Richarlison, the Toffees certainly need to bring a new creative spark to their attack, and the addition of Cornet could be just what the doctor ordered.
Whether or not Burnley are keen to take such a deal remains to be seen, but this could be a cracking signing for Everton.
