Everton are reportedly willing to consider loaning Ashley Williams out for the final year of his contract.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Stoke are now in talks with Everton over a potential loan deal for Ashley Williams with Marco Silva willing to consider letting the Wales international leave Goodison Park ahead of the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

Williams has endured a difficult spell with the Toffees. He has struggled to replicate the form that arguably made him one of the Premier League’s most impressive and reliable centre-backs during his time at Swansea, and Silva is now reportedly ready to let him go this summer.

The Mail reports that the 33-year-old is attracting ‘major interest’, and Stoke are hoping to agree a loan deal as they look to secure promotion out of the Championship at the first attempt.

The Mail adds that Williams is open to the idea of joining the Potters and that Silva is prepared to loan him out for the final year of his contract with the club, but Stoke are looking to pay a portion of his £65,000-a-week wages.

Williams has the potential to be a fantastic signing for Stoke despite the struggles that he has endured on Merseyside. His experience would be a boost to a squad that many are already tipping for promotion ahead of their opening game against Leeds United.

And unfortunately, it seems somewhat unlikely that there will be many Everton supporters who are against the idea of losing him in any capacity during this window. But they will be hoping that any move proves to be the catalyst for Silva signing some defenders that, based on pre-season results, the Toffees certainly seem to need.
