Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.
According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Everton believe that £42 million could potentially be enough to land Gylfi Sigurdsson – and the Toffees are quietly confident about their chances of beating the likes of Tottenham in the race for his signature.
Sigurdsson appears to be one of the most highly sought-after players in the Premier League currently, with the Mirror reporting that Everton and Tottenham will have to also see off competition from Leicester if they hope to sign the Iceland international.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson
The Mirror adds however, that Ronald Koeman appears to feel that he is in the driving seat to land the 27-year-old – who has scored 27 Premier League goals in the three seasons since he arrived at the Liberty Stadium on a permanent basis – and hopes to have him signed by the time Everton face Twente in a pre-season friendly next week.
Sigurdsson is keen to play under the Dutchman, the Mirror suggests, and Koeman believes that £42 million could be enough to make a deal happen.
However, the Mirror adds that Tottenham remain interested in the situation. And with BBC Sport reporting that Spurs are about to pocket at least £50 million by selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City, it would hardly be a surprise if Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy considered spending the large chunk of that money required to put themselves firmly in the race for Sigurdsson.
Swansea will certainly be hoping that Leicester, Tottenham and Everton all make concrete bids for the playmaker in the near future, as that may ensure that the amount that Sigurdsson ultimately moves for – if he indeed does head elsewhere – is as great as possible.
