The Manchester United player has been linked with a return to Goodison Park.
According to an exclusive report from Talk Sport, Everton are confident of signing Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney this summer, with Jim White claiming a loan deal is on the cards.
The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho, managing just eight goals and 10 assists in 39 appearances last season.

With just five strikes in the league, Rooney was clearly playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and while the latter has now been released it is hard to see the United captain becoming a regular starter again next season.
Speaking on Talk Sport (03/07/2017) presenter White added to the online report, stating, “I was told from the top of the house at Everton last night that it was almost inevitable that Wayne Rooney will return.
“I’m hearing from people in the game that it could end up being a loan deal.”
Given the wages Rooney is currently on at United, it would be interesting to see how they would be paid during a temporary stint at Goodison Park.
The Toffees may be spending freely this summer yet that does not mean they are willing to throw money at their former player, and an agreement that sees United take a sizable weekly hit could be the only option.
Rooney will feel he has more to give in the top flight and, with another World Cup n the horizon, a fine campaign in Everton colours could earn him a reprieve with the Three Lions after his recent omission from the squad.
