Everton have made signing a new number one stopper a top priority this summer.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Everton are close to making their first two signings of the summer.
Davy Klaassen now looks to set to leave Ajax to join Goodison Park, and he could be joined by Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Everton have been chasing a new goalkeeper for much of the summer so far, and Pickford is their top target.
The 23-year-old stopper has been in wonderful form for Sunderland over the past season, and is believed to be a future England number one.
Sunderland had wanted to keep hold of Pickford, despite their drop into the Championship, and put a £30 million valuation on the youngster.
Everton are now said to have met their asking price, with a bid which could reach that fee if Pickford’s move is a success.
Everton’s offer is largely made up of add-ons, with Sunderland apparently meeting a compromise, rather than asking for the whole fee up-front.
If Pickford does move to Everton, he will almost certainly go straight into Ronald Koeman’s starting line-up – ahead of both Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles.
