Report: Everton clear favourites for Moussa Marega, West Ham in race, £35m clause

Everton and West Ham United are reportedly keen on Porto’s Moussa Marega.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Everton and West Ham United are among the clubs interested in signing Porto striker Moussa Marega this summer.

Marega, 26, made his name in Portugal with Maritimo, hitting 12 goals in 29 before earning a 2016 move to Porto, but he spent most of last season out on loan with Vitoria Guimaraes.

The Mali international smashed 14 goals in 31 games there before returning to Porto, and he has enjoyed a superb campaign this season, hitting 22 goals in 33 appearances.

Now, Marega appears to be attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with Everton, West Ham United and Swansea City thought to be keen – though Everton are named as ‘clearly favourites’ for his signature.

Everton v West Ham?

Everton may have splashed the cash on Cenk Tosun in January, but with Oumar Niasse failing to show that he can score that regularly, another striker may be wanted.

Marega certainly fits the bill for Sam Allardyce, possessing exceptional strength and pace, making him the ideal lone striker – and that would suit Big Sam’s style of play perfectly.

However, West Ham also desperately need another striker this summer, and would certainly need to stay in the Premier League to stand any chance of rivalling Everton for his signature, hence Everton’s position as favourites.

It’s claimed that Marega has a €40million (£35million) release clause in his contract, and Porto may well stick to that fee in order to part ways with the striker, meaning Everton will have to dig deep to land him this summer.
