Emre Can has been repeatedly linked with a move from Liverpool to Juventus, which could benefit rivals Everton.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Everton and Newcastle will have a much better chance of signing Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro, if the Italian champions can finally secure the signing of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
Germany international Can is currently in the final months of his contract at Anfield, and is available under a pre-contract agreement if Juventus wish to land the versatile 23-year-old on a free transfer which would see him join in the summer.
Both Everton and Newcastle have been long-term admirers of Italy international Sturaro, who has been afforded just nine appearances in all competitions this season – three of those being in Serie A.
The report claims that Sturaro’s future is in doubt, despite Massimiliano Allegri reverting to a three-man midfield that will see Sturaro gain more playing time at Juventus.
However, it is claimed that if Juve sign a new midfielder this month, he will be placed on the transfer list. Similarly, if the Old Lady sign Can in the summer, then they will be more open to selling Sturaro in what will be a boost to both Everton and Newcastle.
With it believed that a “January move is unlikely”, it could see Liverpool help out Merseyside rivals Everton by selling Can to the Champions League finalists of 2016-17, which would allow the Toffees to land Sturaro.
A three-time Serie A champions with Juventus, Sturaro is known for his intricate array of passing and hard-working nature in the middle of the park. It remains to be seen how much he would cost, with three years remaining on his contract.
