Everton are considering a move for Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri who Sam Allardyce brought to the Stadium of Light in 2016.
Khazri was one of the players Big Sam landed during his one window in charge of Sunderland who went on to make a massive difference as they pulled off yet another great escape in the Premier League.
The Tunisia international’s time in England has not exactly gone to plan since Allardyce left the job however, as he became a more peripheral figure last season under David Moyes and left the club to join Rennes on a season-long loan in the summer.
There however, Khazri has looked inspired. The 26-year-old has scored five goals in just nine Ligue 1 appearances to help leave Rennes sixth in the table, just 10 points behind the likes of Lyon, Monaco and Marseille.
However, it appears that he may not be in France for much longer. TEAMtalk reports that Allardyce wants to bring him to Goodison Park during the January transfer window, and Sunderland will be able to recall him from his loan spell if they are able to move him on permanently.
TEAMtalk adds that the Black Cats are keen to get Khazri off the club’s books as they desperately try to get themselves out of danger in the Championship – so it would appear that the Toffees could be in a good position to pull a deal off, especially as you would imagine that the forward would relish the chance to work with Allardyce again.
And if he does end up joining Everton and manages to replicate the form he has shown with Rennes so far this season, it would arguably be a great piece of business from the Toffees boss.
But given his entire spell at Sunderland, it may not be too great a surprise to see some Everton supporters slightly concerned about whether he is a good player to have a look at.
