Do Everton have an eye on signing Mario Mandzukic this summer?

Mario Mandzukic of Juventus FC kicks the ball during the serie A match between Juventus and Hellas Verona FC at Allianz Stadium on May 19, 2018 in Turin, Italy.

The Echo has reported that Everton are in the market for another striker – and Marco Silva is a ‘fan’ of Mario Mandzukic.

The Toffees are in dire need of a proven goalscorer as Cenk Tosun continues to struggle after joining the Goodison Park club 18 months ago.

And The Echo claim that Everton boss Marco Silva likes the Juventus hitman, who turned 33 in May.

The report adds that the Merseysiders would need to slash their wage bill to accommodate the signing of Mandzukic, a beaten World Cup finalist with Croatia last summer.

Is Mandzukic enough for Everton?

In a word, no. He might have bags of experience but the reality is that the Juve star isn’t proven in the Premier League.

If Everton sign him and then don’t sign a younger upgrade on Tosun then Silva is in big trouble if Mandzukic doesn’t adapt well to English football.

He has been a hit in Italy and Germany, and also had a lukewarm spell with Atletico Madrid, but the Premier League is uncharted territory for him and it’d be a massive risk if the Goodison Park club didn’t sign anyone else.
