Everton have reportedly launched a big-money move for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina.
According to Goal, Everton have offered a fee of £21million for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina after his productive World Cup campaign with Colombia.
The Toffees are yet to bring in any new signings this summer, but will almost certainly be in the market for a new centre back having allowed Ramiro Funes Mori to join Villarreal.
Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams are both the wrong side of 30 for the Toffees, whilst Michael Keane was far from convincing in his first season with the club.
Now, Goal report that Everton have been suitably impressed with Colombia defender Yerry Mina at this summer’s World Cup, and have subsequently offered Barcelona £21million for his services.
It’s claimed that Barcelona initially only wanted to loan Mina out, but may be open to a permanent move if it includes a buy-back clause, much like the deal which saw Barca sell Gerard Deulofeu to Everton.
A meeting will allegedly take place on Monday to try and finalise a deal, with Everton pushing to lure Mina to Goodison Park in order to bolster Marco Silva’s defensive options.
Mina, 23, joined Barcelona from Brazilian side Palmeiras in January, but struggled to nail down a first-team place under Ernesto Valverde, and is likely to be moved on already this summer if Barca land Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet.
The giant 6ft 5in defender impressed at the World Cup with three goals in three games, including the equaliser against England on Tuesday night as he showed how much of a threat he can be from set pieces.
He is still raw and a little clumsy at times, but Mina has outstanding size, strength and aerial ability, and could prove to be a smart signing for an Everton back line which struggled at times last season.
