According to iNews, Everton believe Amadou Onana will develop into one of the best players in his position across Europe.
What’s the story?
Well, Frank Lampard supposedly believes he has signed a potential superstar of the future.
iNews claim that the Toffees have seriously high hopes for their £33m signing, who was close to joining West Ham before Everton hijacked the deal.
The 20-year-old is already a Belgium international, which speaks volumes given the quality of options Roberto Martinez has at his disposal, such as Kevin De Bruyne and others.
Onana has also gained Champions League experience during his time at Lille, while Martinez even compared him to Patrick Vieira of all players, which is quite the compliment.
Liverpool have even kept tabs on the Belgian in recent years, which speaks volumes given the high level of efficient scouting often seen at Anfield – they know a gem when they see one.
Under Lampard – one of the best midfielders of his generation – we see no reason why Onana cannot fulfil his vast potential and become a genuine superstar.
Amadou Onana is just what Everton needed
In our view, Onana will transform the Toffees.
Lampard needed more steel in his midfield after last season’s relegation scrap, and he seems to realise that following the signing of Onana, and the imminent return of Idrissa Gueye.

Now, Everton can field a frightening midfield of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Onana and Gueye, a trio who will surely make life difficult for opponents on Merseyside – there is a bit of everything required between the three of them.
Additionally, their industry in midfield should help the likes of Anthony Gordon, Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin thrive in attack, as they do the dirty work and recycle the ball for Lampard’s forwards.
Only time will tell, but Everton may have unearthed a true gem in Onana.
