Vincent Aboubakar can’t stop scoring for Porto and is understandably on the radar of both Everton and Swansea City.
Porto must be toasting their decision to hand Vincent Aboubakar a new contract when they did. Because more and more teams appear to be joining the race for the Cameroonian striker – who will cost a pretty penny after Porto tied him down to a deal complete with a £45 million release clause in October.
Shot-shy Swansea City have been linked for some time and, as reported by Wales Online, Aboubakar admitted he was open to a move to Liberty Stadium in July.
No wonder Swansea are still keen. Aboubakar is in the form of his life right now and has 17 goals in all competitions, including a hat-trick in the 5-0 away win at Tondela at the weekend.
But, somewhat inevitably, Swansea are not the only English side fluttering their eyelashes in Aboubakar’s direction. Wales Online report that Everton, who have been linked to almost every striker in European football over the last few months, are interested.
Manager Sam Allardyce is understood to be a keen admirer and you can see why. Aboubakar is a physical and aggressive frontman who appears to have ironed out the tendency to miss simple chances – a problem that hounded him throughout a profligate Confederations Cup campaign with Cameroon.
No doubt Everton will have to pay a huge fee, thanks to Porto’s well-timed new deal, meaning Aboubakar may exceed the £28 million they paid Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku.
But with Everton looking like a prolific centre-forward away from living up to their potential, in an attacking sense at least, Aboubakar should be worth the investment.
