Report: Everton attacker Henry Onyekuru to return to Anderlecht

Henry Onyekuru returned to Everton after suffering an injury while on loan with Anderlecht.

Ghanaian football website Soccernet claim Everton attacker Henry Onyekuru will return to Belgian champions Anderlecht as he continues his rehabilitation on a knee injury.

The 20-year-old suffered what was believed to be a long-term knee injury when he collided with goalkeeper Hendrik Van Crombrugge against former side KAS Eupen just three days before Christmas.

He returned to Everton to undergo rehabilitation on the injury and it appears he is now nearing a return to full fitness as he continues his return from the potentially serious problem.

The report claims that the Nigeria international will now be allowed to return to Anderlecht as he looks to keep his chances of a call-up to the World Cup squad alive, with just a matter of months to prove his worth before this summer’s tournament.

Onyekuru was loaned to Anderlecht in the first place as Everton failed to obtain a work permit for the attacker, but being called up to the Nigeria World Cup squad will certainly help his chances of gaining allowance to play for Everton.

Featuring in the Champions League for Anderlecht this season, Onyekuru has made 28 league and cup appearances for Anderlecht and scored 10 goals for Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side.
