Report: Everton are only English club in race for £23m £60k-a-week ace

Everton are the only Premier League club still in the race to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik before tonight’s transfer deadline, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Just a fortnight ago, there was no shortage of interest on English shores for one of the most impressive centre-forwards in Italian football.

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were willing to pay £23 million for the Poland international, who was also in the sights of Fulham and Newcastle United.

Flash forward to deadline day, however, and suddenly there is only one option remaining: Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.

Spurs turned to Carlos Vinicius instead, while Fulham are prioritising centre-halves rather than centre-forwards.

If Milik wants to be the star man rather than just a member of the supporting cast, it remains to be seen how he would feel about challenging the most in-form striker in European football, a certain Dominic Calvert-Lewin, on Merseyside.

TMW reports that Everton are one of two remaining options for the former Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen forward, along with Fiorentina.

Milik is valued at £23 million and would command wages of £60,000-a-week.

Napoli have made it clear that they are desperate to sell, given that Milik has so far refused to extend a contract which is due to expire in the summer of 2021.

Milik would become the third player to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti at Everton during the window, alongside James Rodriguez and ex-Napoli teammate Allan.
