Jack Wilshere is reportedly set to sign a new contract at Arsenal, ending any hopes Everton and Wolves had of landing him.
Jack Wilshere may not be leaving Arsenal this summer after all, with the Mirror reporting a new contract has been agreed by both parties.
Wilshere was set to be a free agent at the end of the season after his current deal at the Emirates Stadium expired and the Gunners were initially only prepared to offer the midfielder £90,000-a-week plus pay-as-you-play incentives.
This would have been a £20,000 drop from the 26-year-old’s current salary of £110,000-a-week and as a result it looked as if the England international would walk away from his boyhood club – with Everton and newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers interested, along with Serie A duo AC Milan and Juventus.
However, the Telegraph outlines that the North London club are now willing to keep Wilshere’s basic wage of £110,000-a-week, but this will include performance related bonuses that mean he could earn much more if he continues to play regularly.
Wilshere’s career to date has been blighted by a succession of injuries, but the midfield ace appears to have turned that around this year with 38 appearances so far; the most he has ever played in a single campaign since breaking into the first team a decade ago.
The Englishman will sign a new three-year contract with the option of a further 12-month extension to potentially keep him at Arsenal until 2022.
