Atletico Madrid’s Gelson Martins is already attracting interest from Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham.
According to the Daily Star, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs to have checked on winger Gelson Martins since his summer move to Atletico Madrid.
Martins, 23, starred for Sporting in his native Portugal last season, hitting 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions before his career took something of a bizarre turn.
The speedy wide man chose to terminate his Sporting contract after the club’s fans launched an attack on the players at the training ground, as he took a similar decision to William Carvalho and Rui Patricio.
Martins joined Atleti on a free transfer, penning a six-year deal with the club, but he is already seemingly a wanted a man just two months into his time at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Daily Star report that Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva has recommended Martins to the club having played with him on the international stage, whilst Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham have reportedly watched him since his move to keep tabs on him.
Martins would be an exciting addition for any team, but there are a host of reasons why the report seems somewhat far-fetched at this stage.
Martins has only just signed a deal until 2024, meaning that the £30million fee suggested in the report is surely way below that Atletico would demand just months after signing him.
Add in that Martins has only played pre-season friendlies and two substitute appearances in La Liga for Atletico, and it’s hard to see just how clubs are suddenly clamouring for a player who was available for nothing just a matter of weeks ago.
