Roma are favourites to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik with the reported Tottenham Hotspur and Everton target seduced by the idea of an £85,000-a-week contract at the Serie A giant, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The rangy striker may be a free agent in summer 2021 but a departure in January rather than June would be the perfect solution for everyone involved.
Napoli would obviously rather avoid losing a player they value at £23 million for nothing.
And, as Poland boss Jerzy Brzeczek said last week, a season on the sidelines in Naples would be a major blow to Milik’s hopes of securing a key role at the European Championships.
Milik hasn’t kicked a ball in anger this season, omitted from Gennaro Gattuso’s Serie A plans after falling behind Victor Osimhen and Andrea Petagna in the Napoli pecking order.
Tottenham could still come to his rescue with the jury still out on Benfica loanee Carlos Vinicius (TMW), while Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is hoping a £10 million bid will be enough to convince Napoli to let the striker and manager reunite at Goodison Park (Sun).
Milik would certainly give the Toffees some much-needed depth in the number nine role.
Cenk Tosun, the £27 million man who has been available for transfer for almost his entire Everton career, is the only centre-forward at Ancelotti’s disposal other than Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Corriere dello Sport believes Roma are still in pole position, however, with Milik offered £85,000 a week at the Stadio Olimpico.
Interestingly, the former Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen striker underwent a medical at Roma in the summer only for the deal to fall through at the eleventh hour.
