Everton manager Ronald Koeman applauds fans
The midfielder was on the books of non-league Rossendale United before signing for Bolton in December 2015, having impressed during a trial spell with the Trotters.
Now, Broughton’s potential appears to have caught the eye, with the Daily Mail reporting that Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in signing him.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho
Everton have been acquiring young Football League talents such as Bassala Sambou, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman over the last year, and may hope to add Broughton to that list.
Manchester United may be hugely appealing though, given their prestige, their incredible youth facilities and their geographical proximity to Bolton, though Jose Mourinho’s youth record may give Broughton second thoughts.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham’s recent record with young players, from stars signed such Eric Dier and Dele Alli to youth products such as Kyle Walker-Peters, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Harry Winks and Harry Kane has seen them positioned as one of the country’s top clubs for young players, and they will hope to use that to land Broughton.
Broughton doesn’t have to look far for a success story; fellow Bolton youth product Rob Holding joined Arsenal last summer, and he has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top young defenders, with Houghton potentially hoping for a similar path to success.
