According to the Daily Mail, Spurs and the Toffees are two of four clubs interested in signing Augsburg ace Philipp Max in January.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring the versatile left-footer’s progress.

He has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, chalking up seven assists in 14 outings from the left-back position.

Tottenham will be looking to strengthen their left-back options, with Dany Rose’s future at the club uncertain to say the least, whilst Everton are in the market for a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines.

Max is an accomplished defender, composed with the ball at feet, and possesses an impressive engine. He also has a wonderful final delivery, and would be a superb addition to whichever club wins the race for his signature.

Whilst he is a left-back by trade, he can also play further up the pitch in the left midfield or left-wing roles.

The 24-year-old is under contract with Augsburg until the summer of 2022, however, and the Daily Mail claim that it would take a fairly substantial transfer fee, if he is to be prised away from the German outfit.

With the pull of the Premier League though, neither Everton nor Tottenham will have any problem tempting him to swap Germany for England this summer.
