French outlet Foot Mercato claim that Everton and Tottenham are both interested in a move to sign Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo after he netted 14 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.
Bayo, 24, also laid on five assists. He proved to be a crucial part of a side that narrowly avoided relegation to Ligue 2, finishing in 17th. Clermont managed 38 league goals last season, and Bayo was involved in half of those.
A staggering achievement on a personal level – and now, the Guinea international is the centre of enormous interest. Seven clubs are keen, leading the charge is Lille. They have made an offer worth upto £9.5million.
- Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best move
- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
But that has been rejected – Clermont want around the £12million mark. Europa League winners Frankfurt, Hertha Berlin, Marseille, Valencia and both Everton and Tottenham are also looking at Bayo this summer.
Everton and Tottenham interested in Clermont striker Bayo
Bayo needs to keep the momentum going. But it is clear he has outgrown Clermont, after single handedly keeping them in Ligue 1 last term. France suits him and his best move would be to join a Lille or a Marseille.
Both sides have their strikers, though. A move to Germany, especially to Frankfurt, would be an exciting opportunity with Frankfurt in the Champions League. But perhaps, his best move could be to Everton this summer.
That, might be, thanks to Tottenham. With Spurs signing Richarlison, Everton are lacking in the final third of the pitch and it opens up the possibility of Bayo coming in and providing competition for Dom Calvert-Lewin.
Bayo recently spoke about his future amid interest from another Premier League side, in West Ham – stating he wants to leave Clermont. The race is hotting up for another Ligue 1 talent this summer.
