Leicester City have reportedly failed with a bid for Sheffield Wednesday’s George Hirst.

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City have attempted to pip Arsenal, Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United in the race to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst – but their bid has been rejected.

The Foxes have brought in Eldin Jakuovic, Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra to boost their squad this summer, but at least one new striker is also a priority for manager Craig Shakespeare.

Whilst Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho could arrive, Leicester may still be keen on adding a striker to their youth ranks, with the intention of developing a young talent over the coming years.

The Daily Mail report that Leicester want to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst this summer, but have failed with their opening bid of around £1million.

Hirst, 18, is the son of former Wednesday striker David Hirst, and has been coming up through the ranks with the Owls, signing his first professional contract back in March 2016.

A 6ft 3in centre forward, Hirst has a superb record for England across various youth levels, notching 12 goals in 22 games for the Three Lions, whilst also scoring regularly for Wednesday’s youth setup.

Unsurprisingly, Hirst’s record and his huge potential has attracted major interest, but Leicester are believed to have failed with a £1million bid – and it remains to be seen whether the Foxes return with a new offer.

The report also adds that Newcastle United are keen to land Hirst, with Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United also pursuing the teenager’s signature, meaning we could see a real battle for Hirst’s signature before the transfer deadline.
