Napoli could consider vastly reduced offers for Brazilian midfielder Allan this summer with Everton and Newcastle United linked to an ankle-biting enforcer formerly valued at £65 million, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Gennaro Gattuso is not a man known for keeping his forked tongue in his mouth.

So if Allan was not willing to sacrifice blood, sweat and tears for the Neapolitan cause, that was never likely to go down too well with this fire-breathing dragon of a coach.

“Allan didn’t train the way I like. He walked around during training and that’s not alright with me,” the AC Milan legend fumed to Goal, dropping Allan from a subsequent Serie A clash with Cagliari.

The writing, then, has been on the wall for months.

Since that very public bashing, Allan has featured in just 14 minutes of Serie A football with Gattuso hardly taking to a man who, not so long ago, was the toast of southern Italy under Carlo Ancelotti.

Where one door closes another opens, as the old saying goes, and it didn’t take long before Everton were tipped to reunite Allan with his old mentor (France Football). Newcastle United have been linked too, via AreaNapoli.

And any hopes that Napoli owner Aurelio Di Laurentiis might have had of bringing in a huge fee for the ex-Udinese enforcer appear to have been scuppered, both by Allan’s dramatic fall from grace and the ongoing financial crisis which has flipped the transfer market on it’s head.

TMW claims that the Partenopei might accept offers of just £35 million – almost half the fee Di Laurentiis demanded when PSG came calling not so long ago.
