Jeunes Footeux report that Newcastle and Everton are considering moves to sign Ajax attacker David Neres. It is believed that Lyon are also in the mix, considering a loan-to-buy offer to replace the struggling Xherdan Shaqiri.
Neres, 24, has sparkled for Ajax since joining the club from Brazilian side Sao Paolo. In his five years with the Dutch champions, Neres has clocked up 180 appearances – having a hand in 88 goals. Scoring 47, he has laid on 41.
But this season, Neres is struggling to find his best form. Just four goals have come in his 22 appearances, though he has only started six of those outings. He has entered the final 18 months of his current contract.
Lyon are preparing a loan-to-buy offer with his market value believed to be in the region of £16.75million. But the report also claims that Newcastle and Everton are considering a January move for the Brazil international.
Newcastle and Everton eye Neres: Could he end up in England?
Neres is one of Ajax’s most-lethal attackers and while he is struggling for his best form, he has hardly been given the game time to reproduce that form. A move to England would certainly suit his type of game.
TransferMarkt report that Neres is represented by the same agency that looks after Newcastle target Diego Carlos. It could hand Newcastle a boost in their pursuit of Neres – with the Toon looking for cover in the final third.
Everton have brought in Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray, and also boast Richarlison and Anthony Gordon. The need for a winger is substantially less than that at Newcastle. But Lyon are leading the way.
