According to TEAMtalk, Everton and Newcastle United are both interested in raiding Middlesbrough for defender Djed Spence.

It’s claimed that Spence’s performances in the Championship are attracting real interest, having shown great progression under Neil Warnock.

Local rivals Newcastle United now want to sign Spence, but they’re not alone as Premier League clubs continue to track the 20-year-old.

Everton, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also claimed to be keen on Spence, meaning Middlesbrough now face a battle to keep him.

Spence, formerly of Fulham, is a quick right back with good size at 6ft tall, and the next logical step for him is Premier League action if he continues to shine in the Championship.

Everton have Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny at right back, meaning one of them would surely have to move on for Marcel Brands to move for a new option there.

DeAndre Yedlin looks set to leave Newcastle in 2021, so Steve Bruce may well be in the market for another option at right-wing back, though Jacob Murphy has to be considered here.

Murphy is being given a chance in that role, so the chances of Newcastle making a January move for Spence may hinge on how Murphy fares in the coming weeks.

Spence has earned major praise from Warnock, having compared him to both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka over the summer – and if he’s even a fraction of their quality, he’s certainly worth pursuing.
